Chapter Infinity ∞
The Iron Giant (1999)
Love is caring too much. Too much to handle. Too much to contain oneself. Too much to feel happy about. Too much to be excited on. Too much to be true. Too much to be afraid of. Too much to spend your whole life feeling.
Love is caring so much. So much that it hurts. So much that you’d do anything for the one you love. So much that you’d go crazy for that someone. So much that you only care for that someone and only sometimes for yourself. So much that there would be nothing in the world you’d replace it for.
Love is caring very much. Period.
According to HappyEnglish, there are different uses for these qualifiers (A word or phrase that precedes an adjective or adverb, increasing or decreasing the quality signified by the word it modifies.) and these can be likened to that of which we call love.
Too is used to show something is excessive or problematic.
So is similar to too, but it can be used with positive or negative adjectives. So is used to show a cause and effect relationship.
Among all the other qualifiers used in partnership with the word much, the word very pretty much summarizes it all. Very makes any word stronger. When a word is paired with this, nothing is changed but its extremity, its limits, and its level of intensity. But among all the other uses of this word, the best thing about it is it’s just there, bluntly said; no more, no less in continuation. It’s because in the end, love doesn’t demand explanation. Love never has to be rational. You just do.
